    Tirsdag - fredag: kl.11-19
    Lørdag: kl.11-15

    Hjertelig velkommen!

New London gallery Maddox Arts brings together a group of spirited
international artists, including Norwegian painter Kira Wager, for its
    inaugurate exhibition.
The exhibition ‘Irrational Exuberance’ is named after a quote from
Alan Greenspan’s ominous speech made at the height of the 1990s dotcom
boom, and is intended to allude to the bold and confident vitality and
enthusiastic spirit present in this selection of work rather than upon
    any specific socio-economic condition.
The participating artists make works that simultaneously provoke,
question and interact with the audience. They all share an obvious
love of their medium, and a collected ambition to animate their
expressions as vibrantly and vehemently as possible regardless of any
current trend or status quo. Whilst the works diverge stylistically,
one can still recognise a mutual abundance of skill and creative
vision; an enjoyment in the coupling of medium with imagination; and
an unashamed confidence in their use of complex artistic devices.
Kira Wager (born 1971) produces painted reconstructions of photographs
and memories. The pictorial surface in her works is characteristically
divided into a grid and painted with oils on thin PVC sheets. The grid
enables her to vary her own expressions on the same painting.
    Previously, Wager has had solo exhibitions at RARE Gallery, New York;
Gallery K, Oslo; Bergen Kunsthall and Samtidskunstforum, Oslo.

Hot Scandinavians Needed for Scandinavian Kitchen

While the rest of the country is cooling, we’re hotting up – we’re very busy at Scandi Kitchen, both in our grocery area and if our little cafe serving our “Scandwiches” and really, really good strong coffee. In fact, so busy that we’re looking for another full time person to join us – do you know someone who might be just right and who speaks a Scandinavian language? Let us know: iloveherring@scandikitchen.co.uk. When asked what he thinks of working at SK, our own Henrik (the Rockstar) described it as “better than Pyt i Panna”. Well, you can’t argue with that, can you* ?

  9. N-Night Team Says:

    Dear all,
As many of you may have noticed, our Group on Facebook was recently removed from the Facebook website. We have now created a new Group under the name of N-Night. This purpose of this message is to explain to you the background to these actions.

Firstly, it is worth highlighting that the NNight parties are arranged by the non-profit organisation Team Denmark F.C. (TDFC). TDFC is a social club for Danish people living in London offering a range of activities for its members such as a football club, a running club, a restaurant club and a golf club just to name a few. The members of TDFC comprise a diverse range of people, from musicians to lawyers, from Danes living permanently in London to students staying in London for 6 months. Since its inception in 2004, TDFC has offered hundreds of Danes in London the opportunity to meet new interesting people and to expand their social networks. TDFC is non-profit organisation and all income is for the benefit of our members.
NNight was launched in early 2006 as a way to generate additional income for TDFC whilst offering our members, their friends as well as other Scandinavians an excellent opportunity to party. Originally our parties were marketed under the name of Nordic Night. However, we have recently become aware that the company behind the website Scandinavianparty.com (SP) during 2007 acquired the trade mark Nordic Night in the UK. As such, we are legally no longer allowed to use this name to promote our offers.

It is worth mentioning that the people behind SP have never contacted us to inform us of the situation. Instead they are acting behind our backs with the purpose of trying to damage our reputation, i.e. we are aware of at least one incident where SP have contacted one of our partners without our knowledge in order to remove our link on their website.

Rest assure however that we are law-abiding people and will of course respect the laws of the Land. Consequently, we will no longer use our old brand name in our marketing material. Saying this and having taken (free) legal advice on this matter, as SP acquired the trade mark in mid 2007 and at the same time clearly having knowledge of us having used this name since early 2006, SP have acted in ill faith. On this basis we would likely be able to seek for an invalidation of the trademark registration.

However, we have chosen not to explore this avenue at present and the reasons for this are two-fold. Firstly, as we all know lawyers do not come cheap and secondly fighting legal battles is not the job of the Board of TDFC as we all have full time jobs and participate in TDFC purely on a voluntary basis. Consequently we believe that our time and the money of our organisation are better spent focussing on further developing our organisation for the benefit of our members.

As stated above we have now created a Facebook Group under the name of N-Night – please feel free to join! As always you can also still find us on the nnight.com website. Most importantly, the future success of our parties is not dependent upon a name but solely on the support our parties receive. With these words we hope for your continued support for our project and hope to see you at our next party.

    With kind regards,

    NNight

Norwegian artist Edvarda Braanaas is participating in a group exhibition which will open in London on 14 March. ‘Viva Lolita’, curated by James Putnam, will be showing at Maddox Arts until 25 April.
Edvarda Braanaas, born in Norway in 1963, started her training in Italy, continuing her art education in Oslo in 1986. Edvarda’s artistic purpose is to express a sense of beauty and sensuality, through a creative process where her greatest concern lies in materialising these visions, as narratives of individuals in different situations and settings. To fulfil her ideas she uses fragments of already existing icons from art and life. She rearranges the images by exploring new connections that reveal dreams and desires where the conscious and unconscious remain fluid.

‘Viva Lolita’ presents a range of contemporary artists’ depictions of young teenage girls that capture the mingling of fading innocence with emerging sexuality. Inspired by the title of Vladimir Nabokov’s notorious book, ‘Lolita’ has since been coined as a word, with seemingly widening connotations, for a sexy young teenage girl.

‘Viva Lolita’ brings together a selection of existing and specially commissioned works by 18 international artists. The artists exhibiting with Edvarda are Charlotte Beaudry (Belgium), Heli Rekula (Finland), Koichi Enomoto (Japan), Fafi (France), Feng Qianyu (China), Nick Ruston (UK), Nazif Topcuoglu (Turkey), Li Bo (China), Mark Karasick ( Canada), Trevor Brown (UK), Nobuyoshi Araki (Japan), Hellen Van Meene (Netherlands), Lei Benben (China), Stu Mead (USA), Jens Lucking (Germany) Andrea Massaioli (Italy), Mat Collishaw (UK)
